Renewal of your PH Designer/Consultant or PH Tradesperson Qualification

We’re often asked by accredited PH Designers / Consultants and Tradespersons how to renew their qualification.

For PH Designers / Consultants there are two ways to renew your qualification:

  1. By documenting a Certified Passive House, EnerPHit retrofit (or Precertification) or PHI Low Energy Building for which you have done the PH design work in a special technical report format and having this assessed successfully. You must have done all of the PHPP energy modeling work at a minimum. This documentation is then submitted to an accredited Assessor. Sustainable Engineering is an accredited assessor, and if we’ve certified the project, please contact us for a quote/proposal with detailed directions using the contact form.
  2. Obtain 100 PHI education credit points (called CEPH) while your accredited PH designer/consultant qualification is valid and submitting them on a form with a fee directly to PHI. The fee at the time this page was put together was 450EUR +VAT with a small discount for iPHA membership. This has to be submitted to PHI directly and the form is available here: https://cms.passivehouse.com/en/training/resources/forms-fees/ under the heading ‘Furthur training credit points’

For PH Tradespersons there are also two ways to renew your qualification:

  1. By documenting your PH tradesperson work on a highly energy efficient building or a Certified Passive House, EnerPHit retrofit (or Precertification) or PHI Low Energy Building. This documentation is then submitted to an accredited Assessor. Sustainable Engineering is an accredited assessor, and if we’ve certified the project, please contact us for a quote/proposal with detailed directions using the contact form. Note the forms and documentation required are completely different to the PH designer / consultant renewal.
  2. Obtain 30 PHI education credit points (called CEPH) while your accredited PH tradesperson qualification is valid and submit them on a form with a fee. The fee at the time this page was put together was 450EUR +VAT with a small discount for iPHA membership. This has to be submitted to PHI directly and the form is available here: https://cms.passivehouse.com/en/training/resources/forms-fees/ under the heading ‘Furthur training credit points’

PHI education credit points, CEPH, can be earned by taking approved courses, from attending approved events and from teaching at these events and courses. You MUST keep track of four things: A. The course CEPH code that PHI provides for approved courses/events, B. course/event title, C course/event date, and D. the number of CEPH points. Many courses and events will provide a course completion certificate but this is not required in each case. If you forget this information you can look it up on the PHI database here: https://cms.passivehouse.com/en/training/course-exam-providers/continuing-education-events/

There are ‘free’ events that qualify as well if you are a iPHA member (which you should be if you are a member of a local PH member association like PHINZ or APHA). I think the best of them is the iPHI webinar series. If you register with your work email that is linked to the PHI database and your qualification it makes it all nice and simple as it will track this and verify that you actually watched it live. Note watching the recordings later does NOT qualify for the CEPH points. The iPHI webinars are here https://passivehouse-international.org/index.php?page_id=564

Although you don’t get the points the webinars are really good and worth watching if you can make the time. The older ones are here: https://passipedia.org/webinars

I’m a bit sad the very first iPHA webinar is not shown as I did that one on embodied carbon. It is still available on our website here: https://sustainableengineering.co.nz/life-cycle-analysis-shows-ph-performance-still-the-right-choice/
